Faith Omodon, a second-year undergraduate student at Delta State University of Science and Technology in Agbor, disappeared under suspicious circumstances and was later found dead. The Edo State Police Command has taken into custody two individuals who are suspected to be involved in the young woman’s disappearance and death.
A community in Edo State, known as Iru Egbede, reported that Faith Omodon, went missing without a trace. On March 30th, the local community reported their daughter’s disappearance to the authorities, beginning a search effort that would ultimately lead to the heartbreaking discovery of Omodon’s lifeless body.
Edward Omodon, father of the late Faith Omodon, recounted in an interview with the media that his daughter had departed for the farm on a motorcycle on March 30th, leaving home in the morning. Sadly, that was the last time he saw her alive. The day in question held particular significance for Iru Egbede community, as they were in the midst of hosting their national conference, a celebration of their shared identity and heritage. Little did they know that this event would become overshadowed by the devastating disappearance of one of their most cherished young members.
“We usually have the Iru National Conference at this time of the year. We were seated inside the community hall when we heard loud wailing outside that my daughter was missing. She had left for the farm earlier that morning with a motorcycle, taking her breakfast in a flask with her,” he said.
A glimmer of hope emerged when the community’s vigilantes, acting on a tip or perhaps a hunch, apprehended two individuals who were suspected of involvement in the young woman’s vanishing. On Sunday, the vigilantes brought the suspects to justice, turning them over to the Edo State Police Command for further investigation.
In a press briefing on Sunday, Donald Isioma, the National Youth Chairman of Iru- Egbede, shed light on the circumstances surrounding the arrests of the two suspects. He revealed that the suspects were apprehended on Saturday afternoon following a bold and clever investigative move: the tracking of the late Faith Omodon’s cell phone, which led authorities straight to the alleged perpetrators.
Isioma added, “The police have recovered the phone from the suspects and the motorbike Omodon rode to the farm on the day she went missing.
“One of the suspects who is a member of the community has confessed that they had killed the girl while being interrogated at the Okpaihe Police Station before the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Benin.”
