A tumultuous scene unfolded in Odeomu, Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State, when enraged youths set fire to a vehicle involved in a tragic accident that claimed the lives of four individuals. The incident occurred after the driver of the car, bearing registration number BDG 481 JD (LAGOS), reportedly crushed four persons, including a motorcyclist and passengers, to death.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the driver of the car, along with two other occupants, allegedly crashed into the victims who were aboard the motorcycle.
As more details emerge surrounding the devastating accident in Odeomu, Osun State, it has been revealed that the victims included an Okada rider and a family of four. Sources indicate that a middle-aged woman, was traveling on the motorcycle with her three children when the collision occurred.
Reports further revealed that the vehicle involved in the fatal accident was occupied by students from Osun State Polytechnic, Iree. Reportedly returning from their first semester examinations in Osogbo.
Witnessing the horrific incident, enraged youths from the community set the vehicle and its occupants ablaze, fueled by their anger and grief. Despite attempts to quell the flames and rescue the remaining passengers, the mob’s fury persisted, leading to further casualties.
The timely arrival of local police officers prevented further loss of life. The officers managed to rescue two individuals who had been set ablaze by the angry mob, providing a glimmer of hope in an otherwise devastating situation.
In the wake of the tragic events, the Police Public Relations Officer Yemisi Opalola who also confirmed the incident issued a statement calling for calm and urging residents to allow the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.
Opalola said: “The driver escaped immediately the accident happened after much appealing to the angry mob they set ablaze the remaining two occupants of the vehicle later we quenched the fire rescued them transferred them to hospital in Osogbo area”
