Human Trafficking: 46 Migrants Found Dead Inside Truck In US, 16 Others Rushed To Hospital

No fewer than 46 persons have been confirmed dead after they were discovered in the back of a sweltering tractor-trailer in San Antonio on Monday, in what seems to be a human smuggling incident.

Washington Post reports that another 16 persons were rescued alive but have been taken to the hospital for treatment according to the San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood.

The victims had reportedly suffered from extreme heat and dehydration. According to Hood, the bodies removed from the truck “were hot to the touch.”

“There were no signs of water in the vehicle, and no visible working AC unit on that rig,” he said.
The nationality of the victims was however not disclosed and three people have been taken into police custody, authorities said.
Authorities noted that the investigations will be handled by Homeland Security Investigations, a branch of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that specializes in human trafficking cases.

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said, “This is nothing short of a horrific human tragedy,” as he described the migrants as people “who had families, who were likely trying to find a better life.”

The incident comes amid a record influx of migrants across the U.S.-Mexico border, where authorities are on pace to record more than 2 million arrests during fiscal 2022.
Smuggling organisations working inside the United States sometimes pack migrants into trucks and cargo trailers after they have already crossed the border, to sneak them past highway checkpoints operated by the U.S. Border Patrol.

In recent years, there have been several deadly human trafficking incidents on U.S. soil — but the death toll in Monday’s tragedy surpassed those events.

The location is close to Interstate 35, a major transit route for traffic and commerce from the border. Police said the truck full of people was discovered around 6pm local time.

Texas Republican Governor, Greg Abbott blamed the incident on the president as he tweeted, “these deaths are on Biden” saying it was a “result of his deadly open border policies. They show the deadly consequences of his refusal to enforce the law.”

Herders Stabbed Lagos Man To Death Over Cow

Two herders allegedly stabbed a man to death over the death of a cow in Agemowo, Badagry area of Lagos state.

PurpleWorld learned that the man was stabbed after two cows rammed into a commercial vehicle popularly known as “danfo” on the Badagry expressway, causing the death of one of the cows.

The herdsmen were said to have reacted angrily and stabbed the man identified as Omoga, who died immediately on the spot.

Olushola Padonu, a resident of the area, told The Gazette that officials of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) handed over the herder to the police.

“The person that was killed goes by the nickname Omoga,” says Mr Padonu, adding that “The LNSC arrested one of the herders. The soldiers and police are at the venue as we speak because the youth are hunting for the Fulani man (second herder)”

Police spokesperson in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the two herders were arrested on Monday.

“A commercial vehicle ran into two cows this morning at Agemowo, Badagry, killing one of the cows. The two cattle herders attacked someone they mistook for the vehicle conductor, resulting in his death. Angry residents blocked the highway in protest of the killing,” Mr Hundeyin tweeted.

“The DPO, Morogbo Division, assisted by soldiers from 243 Recce Battalion, Badagry successfully cleared the obstruction. Normalcy has since returned to the area. It is entirely false that the victim was turned back when he sought refuge in the police station.

“He did not make it off the accident scene, let alone reach the station. Meanwhile, the two herders have been arrested. Investigation is ongoing. Updates will be provided subsequently.”

Hemp Seller Allegedly Slits Girlfriend’s Throat In Mowe, Ogun State

.

A hemp seller, identified as Toba, has been accused of slitting his girlfriend’s throat and dumped her corpse in a bush in Kara-Kekere community, Ogunrun, Mowe, in the Obafemi Owode area of Ogun State.

Toba and his girlfriend, Tunrayo Odubanjo, were at his residence when he sent her to get an alcoholic drink on Wednesday, May 18.

The victim was said to have worn his slippers to the place and he allegedly attacked her for it when she came back.

“He told her to pack out of his house, but she kept begging him and when she decided to leave the house, she could not see her slippers. She asked him for the slippers and Toba said he threw them into the bush. She pleaded with him to help her retrieve them from the bush, but he refused,”

According to eye witness she said, “I tried to intervene, but he threatened to use broken tiles on me. So, I withdrew and continued with what I was doing. The girl later asked me for slippers, but I told her I had none. Suddenly, he pursued the girl again, dragged her into the bush and started beating her.

“I heard the girl begging and thought it was just beating. After a few minutes, I suddenly saw him sitting on the lady. I quickly called people at the site and the son of a chief in our community and they rushed down to apprehend him as he abandoned her corpse in the bush and wanted to run. Toba used broken tiles to slit his girlfriend’s throat.”

Tunrayo’s corpse was carried out of the bush, with a cloth covering her neck.

I was just ‘catching cruise’, says lady in ‘sleeping with dog’ viral video

The lady who made a viral TikTok video claiming she slept with a dog for N1.7million has said she was merely “catching cruise,” a slang for joking.

The slim, light skinned woman with TikTok user ID @Veegodess has been trending on social media after saying there was no big deal about bestiality.

She claimed that video, that contrary to what people think about sleeping with a dog, she had never contracted any disease.

“What is the big deal there? I only slept with a dog, I didn’t kill somebody. You, in your life, you have done worse and besides, have you seen N1.7million before?

“As if it’s a big deal. And mind you I’m not infected or anything. Stop dying on the matter, I’m enjoying the money,” she stated in the first video.

But following backlash from Nigerians who condemned her for the act, the lady recanted.

They have not returned home since then and all their numbers have remained switched off.”

Mother kills her baby with rat poison

A 20-year-old youth has confessed to killing her 3-day-old baby with rat poison.

The youth, Amina Umar, a divorcee, had the said baby for a 22-year-old man who she claimed could not support her with the baby.

The Adamawa State Police Command is currently holding the youth for resorting to the rat-killing substance to end the life of her own baby.

Amina Umar, it was gathered Wednesday, was divorced by her husband but got involved with the new man identified as Buba Musa, with whom she had the baby.

She was said to have delivered the baby on the 14th of March, 2022 and administered the deadly rat poison on the baby on the 17th March.

The divorcee who hailed from Madagali Local Government Area, told newsmen at the Adamawa Police Command headquarters where she is being held with the said father of the dead child, that she killed the child because of lack of means to cater for the child and herself.

Amina Umar, who has expressed regret for her action, was said to have planned her child’s death by sending for the purchase of the rat poison which she fed to the baby.

After administering the chemical, Amina told her neighbours that her baby had become sick, but her neighbours became suspicious of her, witnesses said, because they heard her conversation with the boy that she sent to buy the poison.

It was the police, the divisional office in Madagali, that took the corpse of the baby after arresting the mother where she admitted killing the baby.

The Madagali Police Division subsequently transferred the case to the police headquarters in Yola.

The father of the deceased, Buba Musa, admitted that he was the one who impregnated Amina after she was divorced by her husband, but he denied knowledge of Amina’s plan to kill the baby.

Buba Musa, a married mechanic who said he promised to marry Amina as his second wife, said he did not even know when Amina was delivered of her pregnancy because he fell sick and had surgery.

He said he only heard about things after the baby had died.

Commenting on the matter, spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, said the suspects will be charged to court after due investigation had been completed.

‘Defilement’: We were acting movie script – Baba Ijesha

Baba Ijesha told the court that the foster mother of the minor, Princess, had called and requested him to be part of the movie production.

“On April 19, 2021, Princess sent me a message that she wanted to start a production and she would like me to play the role of a lover boy which I replied ‘okay’.

“She said the story is about rape and she wanted to tell the story in another dimension,”.

The defence counsel tendered before the court, a printout of WhatsApp message between Princess and the defendant, which was admitted into evidence by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo.

“I asked for the movie location but she told me to come over to her house.”

“Before I entered, Princess met me at the balcony that the movie production was a Lagos State project, adding that the state wanted her to be the face of ‘anti child molestation.’

“She told me to improvise and create a story by myself. I told her the house was dark when I entered. She said we should rehearse that she would use her phone.

“Princess told me to kiss and suck the br€ast of the child, adding that the dress the girl was wearing was purposely for the role the girl wanted to play.

“She would leave the room so that the child would not be shy to play out the role.

“All those things we are seeing in that video is just acting. My lord check my record when it comes to acting, I can kill myself and die for acting. She was the one directing and filming my angles,” he said.

Baba Ijesha told the court that himself and Princess were directors of the movie, adding that she told him he could act out the scene in the kitchen as well.

“She told me I could go into the kitchen as well. She told the girl in question you remember what I told you, when I leave the room now, act out your role perfectly.

“The girl removed my shoe and I started acting out my role. I romanced her based on the movie role Princess gave me.

“As I was acting with the girl, kissing and licking her fingers, I was also whispering to her ‘hey do not look at the camera’.

“Suddenly, I saw like eight people including Princess, entered the room and started beating her”.

Man commits suicide inside his car after killing girlfriend in Ogun

A yet-to-be-identified man and a woman have been found dead inside a Sienna vehicle along the Mowe/Ibafo axis of Lagos-Ibadan highway.

Residents of the area said the car was seen on Tuesday, locked up with the two of them inside.

The car, with Lagos number plate, LSD 992 HH, had a helmet on the dashboard, suggesting that the owner might be an engineer or a contractor.

As people could not ascertain what killed the man and the woman in the vehicle, there were speculations about the cause of their mysterious death.

A resident of the area, who simply identified herself as Jane, said, “The car has been standing here since yesterday (Monday). But this morning, people moved closer and discovered that there were two lifeless bodies inside it. We don’t know what killed them.”

Another source told our correspondent that the two might be having sex with each other when the incident happened.

“It was discovered that a man and a woman were having sex in the car but they died opposite Nasfat praying ground,” the source said.

But, one Seun Damilola countered that this couple actually didn’t die while having sex inside the car.

According to him, “the man beat his girlfriend to death at their house around Akoka, drove her down to Mowe, dropped a suicide letter to his family and fed himself a poison.”

Contacted, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident on Wednesday.

Oyeyemi said the two did not die while having intercourse inside the car, saying it was a case of murder and suicide.

According to him, the man had visited the deceased woman, his girlfriend, somewhere in Lagos.

“The two did not die while having sex. What happened was that the girl in question happened to be a girlfriend to that man. He rented an apartment for her somewhere in Lagos. He went there to visit her. We don’t know what transpired between them, but we learnt he hit the woman on the head and she slumped.

“He carried the lifeless body of the woman in his vehicle. People in that neighbourhood ran to Ilaje police station in Bariga to report. But he drove off, straight to his house at Orimerunmu. He dropped a suicide note, informing his wife that he had killed somebody. He told his wife not to bother looking for him, asking her to take care of the children. Then he left the house.

“He drove and parked near NASFAT area and he committed suicide there. We saw a container of Sniper in the vehicle, which suggested that he drank Sniper (an insecticide). He wound up the glasses and died in the vehicle.

“So, it is a case of murder and suicide, Oyeyemi explained.

The PPRO added that the corpses had been deposited in the mortuary.
