Following a video of Seun Kuti’s assault on a police officer, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman, according to a statement from police spokesman, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi thereafter ordered the arrest of the musician.
Kuti on Monday turned himself in at the Lagos State Police command Headquarters, Ikeja accompanied by his lawyer and family representatives.
The 40-year-old musician was subsequently arrested and moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Panti.
On Tuesday, he was arraigned before Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun of a Magistrate’s Court in the Yaba area of Lagos State.
The defendant was charged with assault on a police officer, an offence contrary to Section 356 of the Criminal Code Act of Nigeria.
Kuti had spent the night with the police at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba on Monday.
Afterwards, the police have stormed Seun Kuti’s house so as to search his apartment. However, a video have surfaced online revealing how the policemen were searched before they were allowed entry into the building.
In the video, a voice can be heard from the background, “You didn’t even allow him to wear shoe, meanwhile I am allowing you to wear shoe here”
