The Lagos State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the untimely passing of Gihan Mbelu, a 42-year-old man reportedly serving as the Chairman of Victoria Garden City in the Lekki area.
Mbelu’s demise has prompted an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his unexpected demise, with the police seeking to establish the cause of his death and determine whether any foul play was involved.
Details of Gihan Mbelu’s demise emerged, with sources suggesting that he was found unconscious inside his Mercedes C300 4Matic car in the early hours of Friday, April 26, 2024, around Victoria Garden City.
According to a report by Deji Lambo, a passerby noticed Mbelu’s car had been stationary for an extended period, with the engine still running, and alerted others to check on his well-being. Upon closer inspection, Mbelu was discovered unconscious and subsequently rushed to Lagos University Teaching Hospital, where he was tragically pronounced deceased.
“Concerned by the discovery, some of the people in the area, upon close observation of the vehicle, found Mbelu in it.
“In a bid to rescue Mbelu, it was learnt that he was rushed to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital where he was reportedly confirmed dead by one of the doctors on duty.
“Mbelu’s corpse was said to have been deposited in the hospital’s morgue. The case was also reported to the police for an investigation to commence to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Mbelu’s d£ath,” Lambo’s post read.
Gihan Mbelu’s sudden death has left behind a grieving family, including his wife Eloho, a technology entrepreneur, former investment banker, and private equity investor, with whom he shared two daughters.
In response to the reports, Hundeyin stated that the Command has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mbelu’s untimely demise. The police spokesperson emphasized the need for thorough inquiry and pledged to keep the public informed of any developments in the case as the investigation progresses.
