Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command over an alleged debt related to his purchase of a Mercedes Benz G-Wagon.
The musician reportedly bought the vehicle on credit for N27 million, paying only N13 million upfront and allegedly refusing to settle the remaining N14 million balance.
Reports indicate that whenever the car dealer reached out to Portable for the outstanding N14 million balance, the singer would allegedly deflect responsibility by claiming that the G-Wagon was faulty. Despite the dealer’s repeated attempts to recover the debt, Portable reportedly continued to evade payment, blaming the purported issues with the vehicle.
After numerous unsuccessful attempts to recover the N14 million balance from Portable, the car dealer reportedly sought the intervention of the police, as revealed by Peak News correspondent. Following the dealer’s formal complaint, an investigation was launched, and the police subsequently arrested the singer to address the allegations of unpaid debt related to the G-Wagon purchase.
Peak Newspaper further revealed that the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that Portable had been arrested.
He said, “Yes, Portable has been arrested. He bought G-Wagon for N27m, paid N13m and refused to pay the rest, claiming the vehicle was bad. We arrested him today.”
