Nationwide protests loom as Sowore and NLC plot action against government

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore met with Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) leaders to discuss plans for nationwide protests against hardship and inflation in Nigeria, which are set to take place on February 27 and 28. The protests are a reaction to the worsening economic conditions in the country under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The NLC leaders and Sowore also discussed reports that the DSS is planning to recruit thugs to disrupt the upcoming protests.

In a post on his X handle, Sowore stated that NLC President Joe Ajaero warned of severe consequences if the protests were disrupted by violence. Ajaero stated that ‘Nigeria will be shut down PERMANENTLY if a single protester is harmed during the rallies,’ emphasizing the gravity of the situation.

Sowore said, “Today at a meeting with the leadership of the @NLCHeadquarters in Abuja led by @JoeAjaero94024 to discuss and review serious and important national issues including but not limited to the execution of the upcoming two-day national rally to end hardships facing workers and Nigerians! We also discussed plans by the lawless @OfficialDSSNG to recruit thugs to attack protesters during the rally and the Comrade President Joe Ajaero vowed that Nigeria will be shut down PERMANENTLY if a strand of hair falls from the body of any protester across Nigeria on February 27 & 28 2024. #RevolutionNow.”
