Multichoice Ignores Court Ruling, Raises Subscription Fees for DStv, GOtv

Multichoice Nigeria, the leading television provider in the country, has demonstrated a flagrant disregard for regulatory authorities by implementing a significant hike in the subscription fees for its DStv and GOtv packages. This move comes despite a previous ruling by the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) in Abuja, which stipulated that such price increases should not be imposed on consumers without proper justification.

PurpleWorld gathered that the new prices have taken effect, leaving millions of subscribers with no choice but to pay the increased rates.

In a major setback for consumers, Multichoice’s decision to raise subscription fees despite the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal’s ruling has cast serious doubt on the company’s adherence to ethical business practices and respect for the legal system. The CCPT’s ruling, which was welcomed by many as a triumph for consumer rights in the face of economic challenges and Multichoice’s refusal to provide adequate rationale for the price increase, has now been flagrantly ignored by the television provider.
