In a statement, the APC expressed its condolences to the families of Comfort Adebanjo, a member of the party, and six other people who lost their lives in a stampede that occurred at the Yaba, Lagos office of the Nigeria Customs Service. The victims were reportedly trying to buy seized rice from the office when the tragic incident occurred.
In a bid to alleviate the effects of economic hardship, the Nigeria Customs Service had begun selling seized food items, including rice, to Nigerians at affordable prices. However, the exercise turned tragic when a stampede erupted at the office in Yaba, Lagos, resulting in the deaths of 7 people.
Oluwafemi Fadahunsi, the Coordinator of FKL Ward E1 in Lagos State, and Adebari Adewale, the Secretary of the APC, confirmed in an obituary message that Comfort Adebanjo was one of the seven people who lost their lives in the Yaba Customs office stampede. The message expressed condolences to the family of Ms. Adebanjo and the other victims.
“It is with heavy hearts and regret we announce the painful death of one of our members in FKL WARD E1, Mrs Adebanjo Comfort Funmilayo of house number 104, Ibidun street by AKINHANMI street, Ojuelegba,” the obituary read.
“She was among the 7 victims who died in the course of buying custom rice at Yaba.
“May God grant all the members of her family and all the residents of WARD E1 the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.”
