Despite a warning from the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, the human rights group ‘Take It Back Movement’ went ahead with its planned nationwide protest in Lagos, in response to the ongoing economic crisis in the country.
The nationwide protest by the ‘Take It Back Movement’ comes on the heels of an announcement by organized labour that it would be embarking on an industrial action on Tuesday, February 26th.
In a statement, Lagos Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin quoted Commissioner Fayoade as warning against violence or the infringement of others’ rights by protesters, such as blocking traffic or disrupting commerce. The warning comes ahead of the planned protests in Lagos on February 26th.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fayoade, assured residents that the necessary security measures had been put in place to ensure their safety, regardless of any protests. He stated that the police were prepared to maintain order and protect lives and property, regardless of the events taking place on February 26th.
Despite the police warning, the ‘Take It Back Movement’ took to the streets on Monday to stage their protest. This demonstrates the group’s determination to make their voices heard, despite the risk of potential conflict with law enforcement.
