The Chairman of Rijau Local Government Area in Niger State, Hon. Danladi K. Uganda, has joined Nigerian Army troops on a frontline operation, dressed in full military camouflage.
According to a statement shared by his media aide, Muhammad Sale, on Saturday, July 19, 2025, the chairman accompanied security operatives deep into the forests of Rijau, an area long plagued by violent attacks from armed bandits.
Images of the council boss clad in full army gear have gone viral, sparking widespread praise from residents and observers who described the gesture as symbolic, courageous, and inspiring.
Many hailed Uganda’s presence on the battlefield as a strong show of solidarity with both the military and the communities affected by the persistent insecurity in the region.
While some noted that the move was largely symbolic, others believe it reflects a growing frustration with the slow pace of intervention from higher authorities and a desire by local leaders to take direct action.
Rijau and surrounding areas in Niger State have witnessed repeated attacks from heavily armed groups, leading to displacement, loss of lives, and destruction of farmlands. Security forces continue to conduct operations aimed at flushing out criminal elements from the area.
