Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, has dismissed the recently announced coalition of opposition parties under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a political gimmick designed to mislead Nigerians.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Friday, Baba-Ahmed questioned the credibility and relevance of the coalition, insisting it offers no real solution to the country’s pressing challenges.
“They are deceiving Nigerians. I am a member of the Labour Party, and I still want Peter Obi to return to the party and run again in 2027,” he said.
While opposition figures continue to tout mergers and alliances as strategies ahead of the next general elections, Baba-Ahmed stressed that the priority should be tackling Nigeria’s deep-rooted problems rather than forming cosmetic political fronts.
“There are far more important issues that deserve attention. Even on Buhari’s matter that you asked me about, I don’t want to go into it. What Nigerians need now is genuine solutions, not distractions,” he added.
