The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, has resigned from his position.
Dajoh stepped down on Sunday, though the exact reasons for his decision remain unclear at the time of this report.
He was elected Speaker of the 10th Assembly in June 2023 after a heated contest. His sudden resignation has now raised fresh questions among lawmakers and observers in the state.
In recent weeks, the Assembly has been unsettled by internal disputes. A group of lawmakers had been suspended over allegations of plotting to impeach the Speaker, creating sharp divisions within the House.
Following Dajoh’s resignation, the Assembly is expected to reconvene soon to choose a new Speaker.
