Human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, to depart Lagos for Washington, D.C. on Friday evening to reunite with family and friends.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the return of Sowore’s passport and the lifting of the travel ban imposed on him four years ago. This comes after the Nigerian government dropped the charges of treason against him.
The Nigerian government has dropped the treason charges against Sowore, according to a statement by the Attorney General of the Federation. The statement also noted that the government would no longer pursue the case against Sowore.
A letter dated February 15, 2024 and addressed to the Federal High Court in Abuja confirmed the government’s decision to drop the charges and discontinue the case against Sowore.
