A tragic incident occurred in Lagos State’s Surulere area, when the compactor of a refuse truck fell from a bridge and crushed a tricycle rider, whose identity is still unknown.
Sources report that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening, causing shock and chaos in the area.
According to eyewitness accounts, the refuse truck was travelling across the Shitta bridge in the Surulere community when it suddenly developed a mechanical fault, which caused it to lose control and tip over the side of the bridge. It is not yet known if the mechanical fault was caused by a pre-existing issue or if it was a sudden malfunction.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has confirmed that the crash caused the truck’s compactor to detach and fall down the side of the bridge, colliding with a mini commercial bus and a tricycle in the process. The full extent of the damage caused by the crash is still being assessed.
According to a statement from the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the tricycle rider was killed instantly in the crash.
