After a widespread outage on Tuesday that left users worldwide unable to access their accounts, Facebook and Instagram are back up and running. The platforms, both owned by Meta, experienced a major disruption earlier in the day, but have now returned to normal operations.
Earlier in the day, PurpleWorld reported on the widespread outage affecting Facebook and Instagram, which left many users in Nigeria unable to access the platforms. Users took to other social media sites to express their frustration, voicing their concerns about the outage and its impact on their daily lives.
Users said they were logged out of the social media platforms.
In a statement posted on his X profile, Meta’s Communications Officer Andy Stone confirmed the outage and said the company’s engineers were working to resolve the issue. He apologized for the inconvenience caused and assured users that they were doing everything they could to get the platforms back up and running.
He said, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.”
