A dispute between a student and his teachers at Agbara Grammar School in Ogun State reportedly turned violent, leading to an alleged ass@ult of the school principal and one of the teachers. The incident reportedly involved the student’s parents as well, making it a highly charged and serious situation.
According to reports, the incident began when the student’s uniform was seized by the school principal on February 14 for allegedly misbehaving and disrespecting authority.
The principal reportedly argued that since the student had registered for exams at another school, he was no longer a student at Agbara Grammar School and therefore should not be wearing the school uniform. This was the stated reason for the principal’s decision to seize the uniform, although the student’s parents disagreed with this reasoning.
Despite attempts by school officials to explain the situation, the student’s parents reportedly became aggressive and attacked the principal. In the heat of the moment, the student slapped a teacher and tore his clothes. The situation quickly spiraled out of control and resulted in further violence.
Ogun State’s Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu, confirmed the incident . The commissioner added that the student and his parents would be held accountable for their actions in court, in accordance with the law.
“Yes, I am aware of the incident. It is condemnable and such won’t be allowed in our school. I am in touch with the relevant authorities and I can tell you that the boy and his parents will be prosecuted,” the Commissioner stated.
“I learnt that the parents are already begging but I have insisted that they will get to court. It is a challenge that we had in the past when some of these parents were joining their children to attack the teachers but since one of the parents bagged six months of community service, the rubbish has stopped,” he added
