Despite the scheduled teacher’s recruitment test for 13 centers across Osun State on Wednesday, two centers in Osogbo and Ikire did not host the test. This caused confusion and disappointment for many applicants who had traveled to these centers to take the test.
The state government of Osun began the recruitment process for new teachers in public primary and secondary schools by collecting applications and assigning the applicants to 13 test centers across the state. The Osun State University was tasked with overseeing the recruitment process, including administering the exams at the designated test centers.
In some of the test centers, the teacher’s recruitment exercise began slowly, but by noon, things were running smoothly. However, this was not the case in all centers, as few centers failed to hold the exams at all.
In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of UNIOSUN, Ademola Adesoji, the university acknowledged the disruption of the teacher’s recruitment exam in two test centers in Osogbo and Ikire. According to the statement, the university’s servers had been hacked overnight, which led to the disruptions. The statement also announced that the affected centers would be rescheduled for a later date, so that all applicants can have the opportunity to take the exam.
The statement read partly, “The management of Osun State University has disclosed that its server was hacked overnight by unknown criminals attempting to disrupt the teachers’ recruitment test scheduled for today.
“Unexpectedly, our server was attacked at midnight today. We responded technically and frustrated attempts to breach our core software and question bank. The damage inflicted on the server required time to resolve, resulting in an undue delay in the start of exams and necessitating the rescheduling of tests at two out of thirteen centres.
“We are relieved that the hackers or opponents of this recruitment process have failed in their attempts to thwart us.
“Over the last eight or so hours, it has been a tough battle in our efforts to ensure the success of the Osun State government. Examinations have concluded at 11 out of the 13 locations today.
“However, the two problematic centres Osogbo and Ikire will be rescheduled based on the ministry’s decision.”
