The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore and other key party members have been invited for the 2022 International Forum on Governance and Development in Africa.
The event is scheduled to hold from September 26-30 in Nairobi, Kenya.
The forum is said to be an avenue for shining the spotlight on trends, opportunities and challenges facing the African states, while sharing experiences and best practices for the overall benefit of all, moving from potential to possibilities.
This was made known in an invitation letter addressed to the party and obtained by SaharaReporters, titled ‘Special Invitation As Guest Of Honour/Request To Make Presentation At The 2022 International Forum On Governance And Development In Africa.’
According to the statement, the forum offers experts the opportunity to reassess the role of state authorities and political institutions as critical stakeholders in the security and development of the society with such highpoints as the reoccurring cases of migration, the risk associated with it, the current state of violent criminal activities in most African states, including terrorism, arms banditry, kidnappings and other youth criminal activities.
The letter reads, “We bring you the best wishes of the international advisory board and leadership of Global Advocacy for African Affairs, Africa’s leading development advocacy organization and non-governmental initiative with special focus on Governance, Policy Advocacy and Development in Africa, organizers of Forum on Governance and Development in Africa in collaborations with other international partners.
“Recall, you were specially invited as Guest of Honour at the 2022 International Forum on Governance and Development in Africa, with the theme “Evolving Security and Development Challenges in Africa and the Role of Traditional and Political Authorities” slated for July 25-29, 2022 at the Nairobi Safari Club, Nairobi, Kenya, where you were expected to make presentation on “The effect of electoral violence on electoral participation in Nigeria” but was postponed following strong appeals from major stakeholders and partners in Kenya who are unavoidably involved in the Kenya general elections.
“The forum has therefore been rescheduled to hold on September 26-30, 2022 at the Nairobi Safari Club, Nairobi, Kenya with every other previous details intact.
“We therefore request that you take advantage of the period of extension to prepare and lead a delegation of key members of your party who will be expected to join other experts in rethinking and developing solutions to myriads of security and development challenges in the continent and bringing together; presidential delegations, state actors, private sector leaders, development stakeholders, notable institutions, technocrats, academics, professionals, diplomats, traditional rulers, security experts, major Think-Tanks on African Relations and full suite of the local and international media.
“From the maiden Johannesburg, South Africa edition in 2018 to the 2014 second edition in Kigali, Rwanda (sic) with delegates from Governments, Civil Societies, Businesses, Political and Diplomatic Leaders among others, the forum by Global Advocacy for African Affairs has become a critical tool of engagement aimed at fostering a robust solution based intellectual debate that is expected to address the quest for stable and virile Africa.
“It is an avenue for shining the spotlight on trends, opportunities and challenges facing the African states, while sharing experiences and best practices for the overall benefit of all, moving from potentials to possibilities. This invitation only event offers prominent stakeholders opportunity to participate in more focused and in-depth discussions on specific issues of governance, economy and overall development of the African states.
“The World Bank, using well over 100 indicators, introduced a composite index of good governance, based on perceptions of voice and accountability, political stability and the absence of violence, government effectiveness, regulatory quality, the rule of law, and levels of corruption. Regrettably, the abysmal performance of most African governments on these very key areas. account to a large extent the reason for the disturbing spate of insecurity and underdevelopment.”
“It will offer experts the opportunity to reassess the role of state authorities and political institutions as critical stakeholders in the security and development of our society with such highpoints as the reoccurring cases of migration, the risk associated with it, the current state of violent criminal activities in most African states, including terrorism, arms banditry, kidnappings and other youth criminal activities; and the intra-national disunity causing serious breakdown of peace and social relations thereby impacting negatively on national development, the weak synergy between state authorities and traditional institutions and the need to constantly engage with a view to insulating them from partisan politics and acquaint them with their statutory and responsible roles to citizens development,” the letter adds.
