Nigerian socialite and cross-dresser Bobrisky has filed an appeal challenging the conviction in a bid to clear his name.
Bobrisky, through his lawyer Bimbo Kusanu, has filed a Notice of Appeal requesting the court to set aside the six-month prison sentence and instead impose a N50,000 (Fifty Thousand Naira) fine for each count of the currency abuse charges against him. This appeal comes after the Federal High Court, Lagos, presided over by Justice Abimbola Awogboro, found him guilty of the charges and sentenced him to six months in prison without the option of a fine on April 12, 2024.
At the sentencing, Justice Awogboro noted that the six-month imprisonment was necessary to deter others from committing similar financial crimes.
