ASSAULT ON PREGNANT WOMAN BY AKEREDOLU’S AIDE, AAC DEMAND FOR JUSTICE

ASSAULT ON PREGNANT WOMAN BY AKEREDOLU’S AIDE, AAC DEMAND FOR JUSTICE, Enough of brigandage in Ondo State.

The African Action Congress Ondo State chapter unequivocally calls on Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to immediately remove from office his Senior Special Assistant on Special Duty & Strategy, Dr Doyin Odebowale and also hand him over to the Police for immediate prosecution following his alleged disgraceful act of slapping a pregnant woman, Mrs Adeola Egbebi; a state environmental officer while she was at her duty post.

Having listened to the viciously assaulted woman on BBC Pidgin and the embarrassingly offensive defence of Dr Doyin Odebowale in a press statement which was relayed on Orange FM, Akure on Friday, May 7, 2021, the African Action Congress came to a conclusion that Dr Odebowale is power drunk and unfit to hold public office having admitted that he dragged a bench with the said pregnant woman in public alongside one of the police officer attached to him.

From available information and fact within and outside Ondo State, Dr Odebowale is well known and notorious for irascible conducts, belligerent and arrogant. Hence, it’s unbelievable that he will only dragged a bench with a pregnant woman without hitting her as alleged, moreso that this is not the first time such a weighty allegation will be leveled against him.

No doubt, the action of Dr Odebowale is despicable and should not be condoned by any decent person/society. The act is its sad significantion testifies to how entrenched misogynistic attitude and gender-based violence have percolated our society.

Therefore, having considered the above together with the confession of Dr Odebowale, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Akeredolu on this vexed and troubling matter, the AAC demands as follows:

That Dr Doyin Odebowale be removed from office with immediate effect because such a character is unfit to hold public office in our dear state.

That Dr Doyin Odebowale should be handed over to the police for prosecution for assault/battery.

That proper and adequate medical care and psychological support be provided the pregnant woman; the victim of Odebowale’s show of naked power.

It is our party’s position that the immediate removal from office and prosecution of Dr Odebowale would not only serve as a deterrent to others who might wish to tow that reckless path, but they will also forestall the breakdown of law and order as series of protest are in the pipeline should the Akeredolu-led administration fails to do the needful
