On Saturday morning, the Nigerian Army recovered the bodies of 14 soldiers who were killed in an ambush by unknown attackers in Okuama community, in Delta State. The bodies were recovered by the Joint Task Force under the supervision of Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding 6 division.
According to eyewitnesses, some of the soldiers’ bodies were mutilated, with some having been beheaded and others having had their stomachs and hearts removed.
At the jetty belonging to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in the coastal Delta community, the bodies of the commanding officer and two majors were found floating near the river bank, while the other soldiers’ bodies were found on land.
The military has imposed a lockdown on the communities of Bomadi and Ughelli South, in Delta State. This lockdown is being carried out by troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6 division and the 63 brigade, which are based in Port Harcourt and Asaba, respectively.
