Staff Member Tragically K!lled by Lion at Obafemi Awolowo University Zoo

A tragic incident occurred at the Obafemi Awolowo University Zoological Park, when a Veterinary Technologist was k!lled by a nine-year-old lion. The staff member, Olabode Olawuyi, had worked at the zoo for over a decade. The university’s public relations officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, released a statement expressing sadness at the tragic event.

According to a statement that was released by the school authority, other zoo staff members attempted to rescue Mr. Olawuyi, but the lion had already caused fatal injuries. The staff did everything they could to help, but it was too late to save Mr. Olawuyi’s life. The statement expressed the zoo’s deepest condolences to Mr. Olawuyi’s family and friends.

Upon being informed of the tragic incident, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE, was told by the Acting Director of the University Health and Medical Centre, Dr. Tirimisiyu Olatunji, that Mr. Olawuyi had succumbed to his injuries, despite the staff’s best efforts to save him. The Vice-Chancellor expressed his deepest sympathies for the loss of Mr. Olawuyi.

The University management was saddened by the events, and in light of the dangers posed by the lion, it was humanely euthanized. The University extended its condolences to the family of Mr. Olawuyi, urging them to find comfort and strength in God. The University also stated its commitment to providing support to the family during this difficult time.

The University has launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, in order to determine its causes and take appropriate actions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
