A source from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed that Bobrisky, the popular cross-dresser, was allegedly arrested by the commission on Wednesday evening in Lagos.
This development follows the Nigeria Police Force’s decision to not arrest Bobrisky, despite calls from the public, particularly social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse. The police stated that there was insufficient evidence to charge Bobrisky, despite the allegations that he had engaged in same-sex activities. The controversy surrounding Bobrisky’s gender identity and sexual orientation has caused a significant amount of discussion and debate on social media and in the Nigerian press.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Ademola, explained, “There are some cases that are always very difficult to prove. I’m not ruling out that we have many of them. Let us be reasonable, you can’t have someone you want to prosecute without having credible evidence against them. I have not read anywhere where cross-dressing is an offense in Nigeria.”
