Oyo Local Elections in Disarray: Polling Delays and No Show of Electoral Officials Plunge Voting into Chaos, Leaving Wards With No Elections Held

The much-anticipated Oyo State local government elections got off to a rocky start as citizens eager to exercise their voting rights were met with widespread delays in the distribution of election materials. Despite the scheduled start time of 8:00 AM, numerous polling units across the state remained bereft of essential election items, causing frustration and disappointment amongst those who turned up to vote.

With no concrete explanation offered by the election officials, the citizens of Oyo State were left questioning the efficiency and integrity of the election process, casting a shadow over the future of local governance.

According to a correspondent from Ogunwatch, the chaos in the Oyo State local government elections was further evidenced in Ward 7 of Ibadan North Local Government, where 10 polling units were devoid of electoral officers, hampering voting and casting doubt on the impartiality of the process.

The Ogunwatch correspondent continued to uncover disturbing details of electoral mismanagement in Ward 7 of Ibadan North Local Government, as it was discovered that the voter lists pasted at Unit 7 were incorrectly attributed to the wrong ward.

A concerned citizen, who wished to remain anonymous, drew attention to this issue, stating, “For instance, at Sunnyday School 2 ward, the voter list they pasted is actually meant for Sunnyday School 1.”
