In response to Governor Adeleke’s appointment of Alufa Akeem as Chief Imam of the Inisa Central Mosque, the Muslim community in Inisa has raised serious concerns. They have urged the governor to abide by a court order which prevents contenders from taking on the role of Chief Imam.
After the passing of the previous chief imam of the Inisa Central Mosque, a contentious process to select a new chief imam led to significant conflict and unrest.
The Inisa Central Mosque was closed by the Osun State Government in 2020, leading to a legal battle in the State High Court in Osogbo. The court ordered all contenders for the role of chief imam to refrain from claiming the position, in an attempt to resolve the dispute and restore order. However, the dispute has continued and is now drawing the attention of the governor.
Osun State Commissioner of Information, Kolapo Alimi, has stated that Governor Adeleke will respect the court’s decision on the matter when the court resumes. He emphasized that the governor is committed to resolving the issue in a peaceful and lawful manner.
