The need to deepen ideological understanding of the crisis of Capitalism as a fundamental reason for Nigeria shattered economy is essential now more than ever beyond mere radicality without content.
Haven gotten radicalized at a very young age of 8years by watching and listening to Fela Songs, I looked up to several leading vocal opposition to State Power like Tai Solarin, Gani Fawehinmi, Beko Ransom Kuti, Fela Anikulapokuti, Chima Ubani, etc I thought every “radical” had the full understanding and scientific answer to the crisis of the society and so, while as a student activist in 2002, I got glued to political discussions on Galaxy Television/Channels Television and went on to become a follower of this vocal political analyst (Chris Nwokobia) who was very critical of the then Obasanjo government.
In 2003, prior to Obasanjo’s 2nd term ambition, this Vociferous ” thick tone” critique of the then Obasanjo government made a 360 degree turn and endorsed the Obasanjo government and till now he’s a member of the ruling APC.
I’m making this reminisce due to the forthcoming 2023 General election and the support of supposedly “vocal” political analyst like Dele Farotimi, Aisha Yusuf etc who have been critical of the Buhari administration but still went ahead in endorsing an element who share no different ideas in management of the economy and would continue the Neoliberal attacks on the poor and working people of Nigeria if elected in 2023.
It’s not enough to be critical of bourgeoisie politicians but understanding why their neoliberal policies is designed to benefit the rich and exploit Labour and proffering an alternative political alternative that will place the Democratic control and management of the society resources in the hands of the working class with the ultimate goal to enshrine equality, accountability, justice, peace and prosperity in the society.
The likes of Dele Farotimi, Aisha Yusuf and many more “critical analysts” are like Chris Nwokobia and must not be referred to as Revolutionary Activists and shouldn’t be a model for younger generation of Activists to follow.
As a young Student Activist, I almost got swayed by Chris Nwokobia’s support for Obasanjo in 2003 but for my recruitment into the Democratic Socialist Movement DSM that same year, where I was mentored by one of the Greatest Socialist Revolutionary in Africa Segun Sango, helped in bringing clarity in my understanding of Marxism and it’s relation to every facet of Man’s life and help in making correct prognosis of the political and economical woes of Capitalism.
I encourage comrades from various organizations within the Left Movement to deepen their understanding office Socialism as a Political alternative to the ruinous capitalist system of inequality.
