Students of Federal University Lafia, Nasarawa State have taken to the streets to protest against the recurring abduction of their fellow students by unknown gunmen.
According to reports, the gunmen targeted an off-campus residence in Gandu, near FULafia, where they abducted an unspecified number of students on Wednesday.
An X user who shared pictures of the protests on Thursday highlighted the students’ discontent with the continuous kidnapping incidents at FULafia.
The photos were captioned, “Students of Federal University Lafia (Fulafia) protest over incessant kidnapping of students in the school environment.
“The state government has watched this madness continue for a long time.”
Reports indicate that the kidnappers forcefully entered the off-campus lodge, seizing an undisclosed number of students while shooting into the air.
FULafia students, fueled by their anger and apprehension over the escalating insecurity, took to the streets, holding placards bearing various inscriptions like, ‘Student Lives Matter’, ‘A cry for one is a cry for all’, etc., and demanding the immediate and unconditional release of their kidnapped peers, whose whereabouts are currently unknown.
Speaking to journalists in Lafia on the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Abubakar Ibrahim, confirmed the incident.
Ibrahim, however, noted that the total number of students abducted was yet to be ascertained.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said the details of the kidnap were still sketchy.
