Nigerian social media personality, Cubana Chief Priest, is slated to face legal repercussions as the EFCC, Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, plans to arraign him for the purported mishandling of the national currency during a public gathering.
Court records expose that Cubana Chief Priest is scheduled to make an appearance before Justice Kehinde Ogundare at the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday. During this court session, he will confront charges brought against him by the EFCC prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) and a team of seven other lawyers. The charges levied against Okechukwu primarily revolve around his alleged improper handling of Nigerian currency during a public event that occurred on April 4th.
It reads, “1- that you, Okechukwu Pascal on 13th Feb. 2024, at Eko Hotel, within the jurisdiction of the court, while dancing during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same for two hours, and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007”.
2 – “that you Okechukwu Pascal sometime in 2020, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same for two hours, and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007”.
3 – “that you Okechukwu Pascal sometime in January 2024, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007”.
In a related development, just days ago, popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, was sentenced to six months of imprisonment for the misuse of the Nigerian currency.
