SUSPECTED CULTIST WHO KILLED POLICE SERGEANT ARRESTED

Some suspected cultists on the police wanted list have been apprehended in Ogun State’s Ijebu-Ode area.

The five suspects were reportedly apprehended on February 22 while plotting another horrific attack at their hideaway along Molipa.

Segun Olabiyi (aka Koleje), Musa Atanda (aka Musa sars), Olorunjuedalo Adewale, Olamide Odewole, and Peter Anuoluwapo Akinyemi are the suspects, according to Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Ogun State police spokesman.

According to Oyeyemi, the suspects were apprehended when police at Ijebu Ode’s Obalende division got intelligence that hoodlums, allegedly belonging to the Aiye confraternity, had congregated in groups at the rear of De Prime Hotel in preparation for a fatal attack.
As a result, the DPO of the Obalende division, SP Salami Murphy, mobilized his men and headed to the scene.

“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums engaged them in a gun battle but they were subdued by the superior firepower of the policemen,” Oyeyemi said, adding that this led to the arrest of the five suspects as others escaped with bullets injuries.

A local gun, two live cartridges and assorted criminal charms were recovered at the scene of the gun duel.

Preliminary investigation, according to Oyeyemi, revealed that the suspects had been actively involved in various cult clashes that had claimed many lives, including that of a serving policeman, Sgt Akeem Oseni, attached to Igbeba division.

“Their trademark according to their confession is to cut off the right hand of their victims after killing them. They also confessed to have been involved in some robbery operation in Ijebu-Ode and its environs and that one of their prominent leaders simply known as PERTH was killed in one of the robbery operations,” Oyeyemi said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been targeting Ukraine’s telecommunications infrastructure since he launched an invasion of the neighbours earlier this week.

The Russian leader, who has seen worldwide condemnation and sanctions throughout the week, has been keen on restricting ability of Ukrainians to communicate atrocities of invading soldiers in real time.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has been using Twitter and other Internet platforms to rally his people and update the world about the raging crisis in his country.

“Starlink service is now active in Ukraine,” Mr Musk, who runs Tesla and SpaceX, said on Twitter. “More terminals en route.”

Mr Musk’s space infrastructure cannot be jammed by Russia’s advanced breakers, according to those familiar with how its design.

As Mr Musk’s announcement came, the European Union also disclosed that Russia will be cut from the SWIFT global payment messaging system and also that the country’s central bank reserves would be frozen on a large scale.

The European Union and its allies, which include the United States and Canada, were hoping the move would further isolate Mr Putin and impose maximum pressure on his regime stand down Ukraine operation.

Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Kwara To Experience Power Outages

Several states in the South-West region such as Ogun, Oyo, Ibadan, Osun and Kwara will experience prolonged power outages in the coming week.

This, it was gathered, was due to the low generation and low power allocation to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company network by Transmission Company of Nigeria.

On a weekly average, the IBEDC as it was learnt, receives 692.5MW power allocation from TCN.

Meanwhile, IBEDC in a statement by the Regional Communication Officer, Kikelomo Owoeye, on Friday said the distribution company had 368.5MW compared to the 692.5MW power allocation expected.

According to her, “Most of the power generation companies that are using hydro (water) cannot generate adequately. So, gas is the only way out. Only generation companies that are using gas are functioning.

“Due to low generation, the weekly average power allocation to our network by TCN was 368.5MW compared to the 692.5MW expected.

“Kindly bear with us as we work with stakeholders in the electricity value chain on a sustainable resolution. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience.”

Some Politicians Are Trying To Lure Us To Stage A Coup – Chief of Defence Staff

The Chief of Defence Staff, Lucky Irabor, has issued a stern warning to politicians attempting to lure military officials to stage a coup against the Muhammadu Buhari regime.

Mr Irabor gave the warning while speaking at a virtual media chat titled “Open Ears Dialogue” on Friday.

“The leadership of the armed forces is also telling politicians to leave us alone, do not mix us up with issues that have to do with politics and do not use political inclinations and persuasions to want to lure anybody from the armed forces into the idea of having to undertake coups and all,” warned Mr Irabor.

According to him, the leadership of the armed forces are of the opinion that a coup would do “more harm than good” in the present regime, hence it was not an option to be contemplated even by the younger military operatives.

“The armed forces of Nigeria have nothing whatsoever to do with anything that has to do with coup. We have learned our lessons over the years and we have come to our conclusion that coups will do us more harm than good,” he said.

He stated categorically that “this is what the leadership of the armed forces is passing down the chain, and educating everyone under our command that there is no reason whatsoever for anyone to contemplate that.”

Reiterating his standpoint on the subject of coup in Nigeria, Mr Irabor emphasized “We will not. That’s the reason why perhaps the discussions you may have been having in the media, we have been insulated from such discussions because they already know our viewpoint in this regard.”

Mr Irabor’s statement comes in the wake of successful coups staged against democratic governments in other African countries.

‘Pure water’ producers announce price increase

The Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP) says it has increased the price of a bag of sachet water from N150 to N200 with immediate effect due to rising production costs.

The Oye-Ekiti and Ikole-Ekiti Zonal Chairman of the association, Tale Oguntoyinbo, announced this in a statement in Oye -Ekiti on Friday.

Mr Oguntoyinbo said the price increment was necessary for producers to bring quality portable water to the door steps of consumers, which was not visible with the current cost of materials for water production.

“Water is important to everybody and water is life, the cost of maintenance, and production costs keep going up everyday.

“In order to satisfy our numerous customers and ensure they have drinkable water on their table, the only option open to us is to increase the price from the current N150 to N200.”

The chairman noted that the decision to increase the price was not easy, but alleged that government had done nothing to assist water producers in alleviating regulating cost of material.

He said that most cities where nylon and other materials for water were being produced with regular electricity, were selling between N200 and N250 per bag.

Mr Oguntoyinbo lamented that water producers, especially in Oye-Ekiti and Ikole-Ekiti axis of the state could not improve the condition of their factories or afford to buy a new vehicle because of paucity of fund.

He, however, appealed to their numerous customers to bear and reason with the association in view of the present economic crisis in Nigeria, praying for better times ahead.

Russia Send Warning To 3 More Countries, Threatens Military, Political Consequences If They Try To Join NATO

Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova warned against other countries attempting to join NATO after Russia started a war with Ukraine Thursday, The Hill reports.

“Finland and Sweden should not base their security on damaging the security of other countries and their accession to NATO can have detrimental consequences and face some military and political consequences,” Zakharova said in a viral clip of a press conference.

The ministry later posted the same threat on its Twitter. Finland and Sweden have given significant military and humanitarian support to Ukraine since Russia invaded.

One pretext Russia has given for attacking Ukraine is that NATO would not give any assurance that Ukraine would not be allowed to join the intergovernmental military alliance.
Ukraine has been adamant about joining but is now willing to discuss a different status with NATO after hundreds were killed in the first day of fighting the Russians.

Russia and Ukraine are both sending delegations to Belarus to discuss Ukraine potentially adopting a nonaligned status with NATO.
The talks come as Russia is closing in on Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital city.

However, U.S. intelligence says Ukrainians are putting up a better resistance to Russian forces than expected.

Russia To Meet Ukraine In Belarus For Peace Talks

Russia is ready to send a delegation to the Belarusian capital Minsk for peace talks with Ukrainian officials, the Kremlin said on Friday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had twice made the offer to conduct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Zelensky had made an initial proposal of talks in a speech addressed to Putin late on Wednesday, shortly before the Russian invasion.

He said at the time: “Ukraine’s security is linked to the security of its neighbours.

“That is why today we have to talk about security in the whole of Europe.

“That is our main goal – peace in Ukraine and the security of our citizens.

“For this, we are ready to talk to everyone, including you. In different formats and in any place.”

Kiev has floated the idea that Ukraine could promise to take a neutral status on NATO membership in order to end the violence.

“In response to Zelensky’s proposal, Vladimir Putin is ready to send a delegation at the level of representatives of Defence Ministry, Foreign Ministry, and presidential administration to Minsk for negotiations with the Ukrainian delegation,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.

According to the Kremlin, Belarusian ruler Alexander Lukashenko is ready to create the conditions for a meeting between Russian and Ukrainian delegations.

Landlord, Wife Brutalise AAUA Female Student For Keeping Lover In Her Room

A first-year female student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Ondo State, is currently in the hospital after being brutally assaulted by her landlord and his wife for bringing her boyfriend to her apartment in the Obasanjo Small Gate area of Ondo State.

The assault, which took place on the night of February 23, saw the landlord and his wife raining blows on the female student named Bolaji, leaving her with deep cuts on her neck and other parts of her body.

PurpleWorld gathered that Bolaji’s parents had pleaded with the landlord to help keep an eye on her as she was a “small” girl, who needed some monitoring.

However, in carrying out that directive, the couple went overboard by brutally assaulting the young lady and leaving her to land on the hospital bed.

Aggrieved students of AAUA, who got wind of the attack on Bolaji, stormed the compound almost immediately to take a pound of flesh on the landlord and his wife.

But the swift intervention of policemen at a station nearby averted what could have been a major crisis in the area.

“The landlord and his wife beat the female student for bringing her boyfriend to her rented apartment.
“Her parents assigned the landlord to help monitor her movement because she is young and so on that fateful day when the guy that came to visit her at home left, the landlord and his wife bounced on her and injured her.

“It was even the university’s ambulance that came that midnight after receiving a call from the Students Union Government Welfare Director to carry her to school’s health centre because she couldn’t walk after the assault on her.

“Other students in that area almost beat the landlord and his wife but the police arrived the scene on time to rescue them,” a neighbour of the victim told SaharaReporters.
Condemning the attack on Bolaji, Welfare Director of the university’s students union, Odole Mojisola, said that they would pursue the matter to ensure justice prevailed.

“I received news of one of our beloved students being brutally assaulted by her landlord. I had to alert the ambulance before the girl was conveyed to the university’s health center as she was seriously wounded.

“The assaulter is currently in police custody. He was apprehended immediately by the police for further investigation. We will never condone any inhumane act against the student as the welfare of students is our utmost priority,” she said.
