The Lagos State Police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, reversed his previous statement affirming the arrest of Obianuju Catherine Udeh, better known as DJ Switch. The Nigerian disc jockey and activist had previously been reported to have been arrested by the police for alleged obstruction and assault.
Hundeyin recanted his statement, clarifying that he had mistakenly identified a different DJ, Commissioner Wysei, as DJ Switch. This led to a significant miscommunication, causing widespread confusion over the alleged arrest of DJ Switch, who was previously known for her participation in the #EndSARS protests.
He said, “There is a mixup from our end. Arrested person is DJ Commissioner Wysei not DJ Switch. Apologies for all inconveniences to a few media outfits like Lindaikeji, BBC and TVC that I gave confirmation this morning.”
