A petrol tanker fell and spilled its content along the Benin-Ore-Sagamu Expressway in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State on Sunday.
Unfortunately, no fewer than 20 people, including three children and a pregnant woman, were burnt to death while scooping fuel from the tanker.
According to an eyewitness, the fire was caused by a spark from a phone held by one of the people scooping fuel. The eyewitness also stated that three children died, they have been able to count 15 dead body and a pregnant woman who came to the scene to buy fuel.
“After the truck crashed, people began to rush to the scene to scoop fuel. It was in the process that the truck exploded,” the eyewitness said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident and described the victims as fuel scoopers.
