Prominent Lawyer, Femi Falana, Requests Coroner’s Inquest Into Mohbad’s Death

Prominent human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has taken a significant step in the pursuit of justice by requesting a coroner’s inquest into the untimely demise of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.

In a heartfelt letter addressed to the Chief Coroner of the High Court of Lagos State, Falana’s daughter, Folakemi Falana, described Mohbad’s death as both “very tragic” and “mysterious.” The lawyer, known for championing human rights causes, made his request official on Monday.

Sharing the letter via her Instagram account, Falana revealed her shock and dismay over the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s passing, especially considering her lack of personal acquaintance with the late artist. She recounted how she had been approached by some of Mohbad’s friends several months ago, seeking her counsel on navigating the delicate process of departing from his record label.

Falana stated, “I told them I was happy to help and they could put us in touch but they came back to me saying they were handling it. I genuinely thought they had come to an agreement. So imagine my shock and horror finding out he was being terribly harassed and living in fear till his last day.”

After conducting discussions with Mohbad’s close associates and family members, Falana has taken the initiative to request a coroner’s inquest. The letter, which was received and acknowledged today by the Chief Coroner of Lagos State, signifies a determined effort to seek answers and transparency in this tragic case.

She emphasized, “I know we can’t bring him back but his loved ones deserve to know what happened to him. Mohbad certainly deserves justice.”

As the legal process unfolds, many will be watching closely, hoping for a thorough examination of the circumstances leading to the demise of this promising young artist, whose music had resonated with fans across Nigeria and beyond.
