Nigerian chess enthusiast Tunde Onakoya pushed his mental mettle and resolve to their limits in an epic 24-hour marathon against 60 fellow chess players. The quest for this Herculean achievement was to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon without suffering a single defeat.
Before embarking on this extraordinary mental and physical challenge, Tunde Onakoya made his intentions known on social media, declaring his desire to tackle this chess marathon in the electrifying center of New York City’s Times Square. He revealed his altruistic motivation behind this journey, stating that he was undertaking this exhausting task to raise awareness and advocate for the staggering number of African children who are denied access to education.
Onakoya on his Twitter account wrote: “It’s officially 1 full day of playing continuous chess in our attempt to break the @GWR for longest chess marathon. @CoachShawnMar and I have played 60 games and the fatigue is naturally setting in. But one thing we will not do is stop.
