Olatunji Olayinka Emmanuel, a final-year student of the Department of English, Faculty of Arts, University of Lagos has committed suicide.

This was made known by the university’s public relations officer, Alagba Ibrahim.

According to SaharaReporters, Ibrahim said Emmanuel had registered and paid for the current semester before his demise.

“He has paid and registered for the semester. The entire University community commiserates with the Olatunji family, and prays that God grants the bereaved family the strength and fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss,” the university PRO said.

In a video obtained by reporters, Emmanuel is seen ingesting insecticide. He, however, did not give any hint as to what pushed him to take his decision.

Emmanuel’s death came barely 24 hours after the Nigerian Army prevented a suicide attempt.

Mrs Francesca Spark had attempted suicide in Lagos State but the army was there to save the day.

Mrs Francesca was said to have been rescued when she plunged into the Lagos Lagoon around 81 Division Officers’ Mess, Marina Lagos when she was trying to commit suicide. However, the reason for Francesca’s decision was not disclosed by the army.
