Nigerian Army only strong on paper, filled with corrupt generals, says London magazine

The Economist has described Nigerian Army as a useless organisation filled with corrupt generals for their inability to protect the country from mutating violence.

The Economist said Nigeria has not been able to address its insecurity because military chiefs have plundered much of the country’s combat resources and the rest had stretched thin with little capacity to forestall the crisis.

“Nigeria’s army is mighty on paper,” the London magazine said. “But many of its soldiers are “ghosts” who exist only on the payroll, and much of its equipment is stolen and sold to

“The army is also stretched thin, having been deployed to all of Nigeria’s state,” the paper said in its upcoming October 23 issued that was published on its website today.
The paper also said Nigeria police has become demoralised due to poor training and endemic corruption.

“The police are understaffed, demoralised and poorly trained.
Many supplement their low pay by robbing the public they have sworn to protect,” it said.

A spokesman for the Nigerian Army did not immediately return requests seeking comments. Nigerian military chiefs have for years faced allegations of corruption and collusion with
violent criminals as a way of keeping themselves enriched.

A large cache of military weapons had ended in the hands of insurgents since 2016. In July 2019, Nigerian soldiers fled with hundreds of millions of Nigeria they were asked to transport to Abuja by an army general.

The money loot was immediately traced to Hakeem Otiki, a major-general who was subsequently dismissed from service after a military trial. Anti-corruption activists said the Nigerian Army took action because the soldiers fled with the loot and the scandal became public.

Former England international Ian Wright slams European football journalists, talks about the AFCON being disrespected

The former England International was noted to have slammed and question European football journalist during one of his recent interviews.

He said:
“Is there a tournament more disrespected than the African Cup of Nations? There’s no greater honor than representing your country.

“The coverage is completely tarnished with racism. We played our Euros across 10 countries in the middle of the pandemic and there was no issue. But Cameroon, a single country
hosting a tournament is a problem?

“You get journalists asking players if they’ll be honoring a call to the national team. Imagine if that was the English player representing the Three Lions. Have you heard anybody asking an English player if he’ll honor a call to the English national team?

“Lot of the best players in Europe now are Africans. If we love them at club level, why can’t we love them at international level?”

President-General Of Shariah Supreme Council In Nigeria, Datti Ahmed Is Dead

A family source declared that the renowned medical doctor, politician and Islamic cleric died in the early hours of Thursday in Kano.

It was gathered that the deceased suffered an ailment before he, unfortunately, gave up the ghost.

Ahmed is survived by a wife and 10 children.

In 2013, the deceased declined to serve on the committee constituted by former President Goodluck Jonathan to have a dialogue with Boko Haram.

Sharia was instituted as a main body of civil and criminal law in 12 Muslim-majority in 1999.

SaharaReporters had in March 2012, reported why the Islamic cleric withdrew from Boko Haram/Nigerian Government Talks.

The cleric noted that he withdrew when Nigerian newspapers came out with a lot of the details of the meeting held when he contacted the Nigerian Government at the highest level on behalf of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria and intimated them of the great possibility of reconciliation and peaceful resolution of the crisis.

He affirmed that the development embarrassed them very much and created strong doubts in their minds about the sincerity of the government’s side in their discussion as the discussion was supposed to be very confidential to achieve any success.

“As a concerned elder and President of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria (SCSN), I felt very disturbed with the turn of events and the increasing cycle of massive violence in our country, and especially, in the Northern and Muslim part of Nigeria. We in the SCSN, therefore, made enquiries as to how to reach the current leadership of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnati Lidda Awati wal Jihad, otherwise known as Boko Haram.

“Our enquiries led us to a reporter who we realized maintained close and valuable professional contact with leadership of the Sect. Through this gentleman, we contacted the leadership of the Sect and established from them that as Muslims they were prepared to consider ‘Sulhu’ which means” broad reconciliation” regarding the dispute between them and the Government.

“It was, at this juncture, that I and the Secretary General of the SCSN, on behalf of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria contacted the Federal Government at the highest level and intimated them of this great possibility of reconciliation and peaceful resolution of the crisis. This was on Monday, 5th March 2012.

“My delegation was well received and a high-ranking civilian officer was appointed immediately to liaise with us towards a successful resolution of the crisis. To our shock and dismay, no sooner had we started this dialogue; Nigerian newspapers came out with a lot of the details of the meeting held.

“This development has embarrassed us very much and has created strong doubts in our minds about the sincerity of the government’s

side in our discussion as the discussion is supposed to be very confidential to achieve any success.

“In view of this unfortunate and unhelpful development, we have no option but to withdraw from these early discussions. We sincerely regret that an opportunity to negotiate and terminate this cycle of violence is being missed.”

Dowen College: Lagos Police Hoarding Second Autopsy Result – Sylvester’s Family Alleges

The family of the late Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, a 12-year-old student of Dowen College, Lagos State, who was allegedly murdered by school bullies, has accused the Lagos State police command of “hoarding” the second autopsy result of the corpse.

This was made known by Perris Oromoni, a relation of the deceased pupil.

Perris, who made the claim while remembering his cousin’s death one month after, also stated that while the house masters of the school are still locked up, the “killers” have been released on bail

He, however, praised senior lawyer, Femi Falana, adding that if not for him, the case would have been closed like many other cases. He also said the family needs clarity on the court date from the authorities.

He wrote on Twitter, “Today’s made it a month since my little cousin here was brutally taken from us. Have the killers been brought to book? Nah, arrested and bailed but the house masters remained locked up. Second Autopsy carried out by the Lagos police is being hoarded like palliative.

“Are we surprised? Nope. This is Nigeria after all. But for Mr Femi Falana, this case would have been closed like many other similar cases. Lots of twists and turns. We need clarity on the court date from the authorities #Justiceforsylvester.”

A week ago, the family faulted the bail granted to the suspects by a Magistrates’ court in Yaba.

It was reported that the Magistrates’ court granted bail to five students of Dowen College charged with the alleged murder of Oromoni.

The students were admitted to bail in the sum of N1 million each. The suspects had been charged with conspiracy and homicide by the police.

The Chief Magistrate, Olatunbosun Adeola, after hearing the bail application filed by the counsel for the defendants, ordered the defendants to produce two sureties each in like sum.

Reacting, the father of the slain student, Sylvester Oromoni queried the court’s decision, wondering the rationale behind the bail when the 21 days requested by the police for investigation had yet to elapse.

The bereaved father said releasing the suspects might hinder the investigation, noting that while the family was not against granting the bail, the court should have waited at least for the 21 days to elapse.

“Yesterday I was called that those boys were granted bail by a Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos. I said, ‘why?’ I now called the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State and he told me; I was not aware, and that they were not done with the investigation.

“I called the DCP in charge of the case who later confirmed to me that the story is true.

“But it was a surprise to me that the same judge gave them 21 days which expires on the 28 of this month when the police requested for the remand order. The court granted 21 days to keep those boys.

“And the 21 days have not expired, and the court granted them bail. I am calling on President Muhammadu Buhari, the Lagos State Government and the Inspector General of Police to please take note.

“Secondly, the police said they are not done with the investigation, that granting the boys bail will not help their investigation, they are getting more facts.

“And they were even planning that after the 21 days if they are not done with their investigation, they will ask for an extension. I am surprised that the court granted them bail when the date given has not elapsed.

“I am not a lawyer but what the family is saying is that they should allow the police to conclude their investigation. I am not saying that they should not be granted bail but it is the court that gave the police 21 days,” he said.

The defendants were on December 9 remanded in a juvenile home over the death of Sylvester, who was allegedly bullied in school for refusing to join a cult.

He later died from injuries sustained from the alleged attack and ingestion of an unknown substance.

The police last week released the corpse of Sylvester to his family for burial.

This was after an autopsy was conducted to ascertain the cause of his death.

Buhari govt planning to eliminate me, I can’t be freed legally – Sunday Igboho claims

Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Igboho has accused the Nigerian Government of attempting to eliminate him in Benin Republic.

Igboho explained that the Nigerian Government was planning to eliminate him to silence the Yoruba Nation agitation.

He spoke through his spokesman, Olayomi Koiki, in a podcast on Tuesday evening.
He said: “The enemies are trying to eliminate Igboho. Their plan is to eliminate him so that the Yoruba Nation agenda will be silenced, but God has shown that he is above them.”

Koiki also disclosed that Igboho can’t be released through the legal route because the Benin Republic judiciary is not working.
He lamented that diplomatic approach has failed, adding that the Benin Republic President, Talon has refused to set Igboho free.

“If you think the legal route is what will set Igboho free, then we are wasting our time.
“Benin Republic judicial system is not working. Look at the way his case has been prolonged.
“I’ve spoken with our lawyer in Benin, and he told me that only the president can set him free.
“Now, diplomacy cannot work. We have to fight for our rights.
“We’ve issued so many ultimata for Igboho’s release, but nothing has happened,” he added.

Igboho had absconded from Nigeria to Benin Republic, following the invasion of his Ibadan residence by the Department of State Service, DSS.

DSS had claimed it raided Igboho’s residence over allegation of the agitator stockpiling arms and ammunition.

However, the agitator was arrested at an airport in Cotonou, while trying to travel to Germany.
Igboho’s problem started with his decision to confront armed Fulani herders in the Southwest.

From issuing an ultimatum to Fulani herders in the Southwest, Igboho delved into agitation for Yoruba Nation.

Akintoye Unveils PAJAWIRI, a Mobile App that Tracks Kidnapped Victims, Exposes Hideouts of Criminals, Sends  Danger Alerts

Says “Yoruba people will use their intellectual power to fight for freedom, exit Nigeria”

In what could be likened to an innovative way of fighting and combating crimes in a modern society, a foremost Historian and Leader of the Umbrella body of Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua, Professor Banji Akintoye, has unveiled a Mobile Application designed to track Kidnapped Victims and Expose Danger anywhere in Yoruba Land.

The Mobile Application and Alert System, named PAJAWIRI, can also expose criminal elements wherever they are with their victims once the victims have the application installed in their phones either on or off.

The Security System also has another system called AFINIHAN that can be used by those without android phones to link up with those with the full application.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony held in Ibadan, Oyo-State, Akintoye, who joined the event virtually, said the emergence of PAJAWIRI is an evidence that the Yoruba people are too intellectually sophisticated to be subdued.

“We have now proven to the world that we cannot be captured nor be subdued. We are too intellectually sophisticated to be subdued.

“It is these Innovations and intellectual powers that we will deploy to get ourselves out of the quagmires of Nigeria”.

On the attendant benefits of PAJAWIRI, Akintoye, in a statement by his Communications Manager, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye, said “every person in  possession of the Pajawiri app on their telephone, will be able to activate the APP instantly, whenever they find themselves in danger.  By activating the app, they will be able to alert their families, their friends and their neighbors that they are in danger and that they need help.

“In that way, no Yoruba person needs to be alone anywhere on their farms, schools, market places, shops and anywhere else. Any person who finds himself threatened by danger and who is in possession of Pajawiri will be able to alert other persons for help.

“In short, Yoruba people today, are able now to enjoy security individually and collectively through the use of the APP known as Pajawiri.

“The Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide owes our engineers who have “put this together an enormous debt of gratitude. The Yoruba people also owe a lot of gratitude to the umbrella body of Yoruba Self-determination groups, “Ilana Omo Oduduwa” for all the encouragement and support that they have given to these engineers.

“The creators of this APP Pajawiri have magnanimously offered to put this app Pajawiri freely at the disposal of every Yoruba person for the next thirty days. That is, from now till the 21st of January, 2022. This means that all Yoruba people can have the protection of Pajawiri without paying any fees for the next thirty days.

“After that, those who choose to continue to enjoy the protection of Pajawiri will be able to do so with an affordable monthly subscription.  That is for those of us who have Smart phones(android, iOS or IPhone). For those of us who do not have smart phones (android, iOS or iPhone), there has been designed a  hand-held alert device named AFINIHAN to work equally as effectively as the Pajawiri on the IPhone.

“AFINIHAN a tiny hand-held device that is able to perform wonders. This tiny device has been efficiently tested and will be available for purchase at a small affordable price.

“The purpose of all these technological provisions, is that the Yoruba nation must carry all its people along in this provision of security.”, Akintoye, remarked.

Speaking on the ideal features and benefits of the APP, the Coordinator of the PAJAWIRI PROJECT, Engr. Ayobami Abolaji, explained that the Pàjáwìrì App is  a warning system for warning and protection through an alarm and alert system that will generate protective action for the community and each individual user.

The United States based IT expert said “The Pàjáwìrì app is designed to provide a technological solution or a system that
allows people to warn others of impending dangers and arouse established Response
Teams in the communities to stop and prevent various vices such as: Kidnapping,
Raping, Armed Robbery, Arson, Theft, Accidents, Murders and Banditry against app users and their community members.

“The Pàjáwìrì App is a technologically savvy information and communication application that Alerts and locates the source and flash points of dangerous security breaches where unchallenged massacre of valuable Human Lives and Properties are perpetrated. The Pàjáwìrì App Proffers a modern day means of Curbing or permanently alleviating the fears that has gripped the inhabitants
of any geographical location and settlements once and for all.

“The Pàjáwìrì App was designed to be activated through a referral process only, in order to be able to know the identities of the app users and detect suspicious and
