Zamfara Youth Leader Bashir Vows to Continue #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria Protest Despite Assault

A video has surfaced online, purportedly showing unidentified men suspected to be security personnel assaulting a young man named Bashir from Tsafe Local Government Area, Zamfara State.

In the video that has now gone viral, Bashir states, “I am the leader of Zamfara youth and I am the one spearheading the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest coming up on the 1st of August 2024.”

One of the attackers asks, “Are you the one leading #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest in Zamfara state?” Bashir responds, “Yes.”

“Will you withdraw from the protest or not?” They continue. Bashir firmly replies, “Sincerely, I will not withdraw from the protest.”

When asked why he is leading the protest, Bashir explains, “It is because of bad governance and I feel our leader has cheated us enough. I’m the leader of Zamfara state youths because they trusted me. We will protest because the government has cheated us enough.”

Despite the assault, Bashir remains defiant, saying, “I’m ready to go wherever you will take me to, I will not withdraw from the protest. Unless you kill me, I will not back out from the protest.”

The video ends with Bashir reiterating, “The video I did earlier about the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria is nothing but the truth because the government is not fair to us. Unless you kill me, I will not withdraw from the protest.”

Reports has revealed how Nigerian citizens are banding together to organise a nationwide protest against bad governance under the banner of ‘EndBadGovernanceInNigeria’. The protest, which is set to take place across the country, aims to highlight the various shortcomings and missteps of the Nigerian government in order to demand systemic change.

The demonstration also aims to convey the public’s dissatisfaction with the economic and social hardships under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
