A 26-year-old Nigerian man, Ayowale Aledjana, was tragically stabbed to death at a residence in south-east London over the weekend.
According to the Metropolitan Police, officers were called to Monson Road in New Cross at approximately 7:26 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, following reports of a stabbing incident. Upon arrival, they discovered a man suffering from stab wounds.
Emergency responders, including paramedics and a team from London Air Ambulance, were deployed to the scene. Despite their efforts, Mr. Aledjana, a resident of South Norwood in Croydon, was pronounced dead at the location.
Police say the victim’s family is currently being supported by specially trained officers during this difficult time.
The fatal incident occurred directly opposite the former Duke of Albany pub, a location known for its appearance in the 2004 British comedy-horror film Shaun of the Dead.
A police forensics tent was erected on the pavement outside the property, while flowers have been placed in tribute near the entrance of the terraced house.
Authorities confirmed that a 23-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder. Both remain in police custody as investigations continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is leading the investigation, extended condolences to the victim’s loved ones. “Our thoughts are with Ayowale’s family and friends at this difficult time,” she said. “I understand this incident will be concerning, and we are carrying out a fast-paced and thorough investigation to establish the full circumstances.
“I urge anyone who has yet to speak with police to come forward.”
