Women as Accomplices, Written by Adeola Soetan

Ask 100 women how they got “disvirgined”, you will be shocked that over 80% were sexually harrased to get disflowered. It’s a secret most women keep forever.

They can’t complain. Complain to who? their mothers who likely passed through the same bad experience and had adjusted with a sad memory to be kept forever. . Complain to their fathers who were possibly careerists in sexual harassment game from teenage years. Tell their randy spiritual leaders who would now exploit the sensitive info to deepen the harassment having known that “their roads are now open to their own spiritual rods”. It’s a lose – lose scenario for our young ladies forced into the sex industry not by their will. Stigmatiisation and not being believed made the young victims to keep quiet.

Sadly , women are the major accomplices in this sexual harassment spree because many have .passed through the same sexual harassment experience “successfully” and they see it as no big deal.. Sexual harassment is taken as part of a socialization process of girls to adulthood. Boys too are at times sexually but they mostly see as a band of honour to enter fully the sex industry with the bad experience.

Women in Nigeria are sexually harassed in schools, churches, mosques, parties, in the neighborhood. It’s a pattern which they feel helpless about. Ask 100 women how they got “disvirgimed”, you will shocked that over 80% were sexually harrased to get disflowered. It’s a secret most women keep forever.

You need to be reminded of how most Nigerian women supported Clinton against Lewinsky during the sexual harassment saga on radio, TV and via discussion. . Even after Clinton confessed & apologised many women still felt that Lewinsky acted mischievously. With many of us, it’s , “A whole US president slept with ordinary intern and she didn’t thank her star” was their chorus. Power is never wrong..
