Suspended lawmakers from the Rivers State Assembly were hosted in the United Kingdom on Monday by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
According to Punch, a video released on Tuesday morning showed that Nyesom Wike, hosted a dinner for the suspended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly currently in the United Kingdom.
The revelation was also made known by the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.
Olayinka disclosed that the lawmakers are in the UK as part of a “legislative capacity building” program and were received by the minister during their visit.
In the video, Wike was seen interacting with the lawmakers in what appeared to be a relaxed and cordial setting, further fueling political discussions around the ongoing crisis in Rivers State.
The event comes amid a prolonged face-off between the state’s governor and the factional lawmakers, many of whom are believed to be loyal to Wike.
While the stated purpose of the trip is training and development, the gathering has drawn significant attention, particularly due to the controversy surrounding the lawmakers’ suspension and their alignment in the state’s political struggle.
