In an official statement released by the Commission, the EFCC has disclosed that Otse had repeatedly ignored invitations to respond to the grave allegations brought against him. These allegations, according to the EFCC, involve serious financial malfeasance that warranted the agency’s intervention.
The Commission clarified that while Otse had launched several public attacks on its operations, his arrest was not in response to those actions. “The EFCC is aware of several unguarded attacks of the suspect against its operations,” the statement read. “While such conduct is condemnable, his arrest was not informed by such attacks. The relevant law enforcement agency will be allowed to look into them.”
EFCC emphasized that it had obtained the appropriate remand order to detain Otse lawfully during the course of its investigation. He has since been granted administrative bail, and the Commission stated he would be released upon fulfilling all bail conditions.
Reiterating its commitment to due process, the Commission urged the public to allow it to carry out its duties without undue speculation or interference. “The EFCC should be allowed to do its job without fear or favour,” the statement said, adding that formal charges will be filed once investigations are completed.
The agency expressed appreciation for the public’s engagement and interest in its work, noting that the strong reactions from Nigerians to its operations are welcomed, but cautioned against unfounded insinuations regarding its motives.
