Truck Accident Kills Police Officer, One Other in Lagos

A fatal accident occurred on Monday in Lagos when a 40-foot container truck, loaded with apples and marked XP 368 AKD, overturned and fell on a commercial tricycle with registration number KJA 364 QN at Ijora causeway, inward Ijora Seven Up.

According to Galaxy TV, the truck lost control while trying to pass under the Ijora Bridge. It crashed onto the tricycle, instantly killing two passengers, a serving police officer and a female commuter.

Security operatives later moved the police officer’s body to a morgue in Yaba, while relatives of the female victim rushed to the scene to retrieve her remains.

Rescue workers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency agencies pulled out two survivors, including the tricycle driver. Both had serious leg injuries and were taken by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) to a hospital in Ijora.

An eyewitness told reporters that angry residents attempted to set the truck on fire but were stopped by security personnel.

Police officers from Badia, Trinity, and cordoned off the area to restore order and protect emergency workers during the rescue.
