Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has established a new ministry focused on livestock development, with the aim of resolving the ongoing conflicts between herders and farmers.

The announcement of the new Ministry of Livestock Development was made by President Tinubu during the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Livestock Reform Implementation Committee at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The Committee’s primary objective is to find solutions to the recurring clashes between farmers and herders that have affected many communities in the country.

Reports have surfaced that Attahiru Jega, the former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has been tapped by President Tinubu to lead the newly-established Ministry of Livestock Development. This appointment, if confirmed, would place Jega at the forefront of the country’s efforts to resolve the herders-farmers conflicts.
