Who rented out those Kaduna MOPOL to the Chinese guys, at what cost and were the policemen considered in the sharing of the rental fees? This should be the primary concern of the police command and all people of good conscience.
We should not pretend as if we don’t know or we don’t see armed policemen standing menacingly in front of moving vehicles and at self created police checkpoints, openly collecting bribe from motorists. They do this at times with soldiers, FRSC and VIO where there’s unity and trust at checkpoints or they conduct their business separately where there is no agreement on the sharing formula and lack of esprit de corps..
The police command can’t pretend that they don’t know that over one third of their men and officers are rented out as bouncers to Owambe party frolickers, as gate men, orderly, bag carriers to Oga madam, GOs, Alfas, as , accredited thugs to rogue politicians, yahoo, yahoo guys, celebrities & yeyebrites, even some powerful “new NANS” leaders now move with police ordelies. So the eyesore has always been there from generation to generation, IGP to IGP who always announces withdrawal of all “police on rental services”.when they resume duty. But nobody including their officers and men take any incumbent IGP seriously because they know it’s always a routine meaningless order for mere optic. The police rental business continues with widened scope of customers who need police bouncers or assistants
The only new shameful thing in the trending video of the Chinese guys giving stipend to policemen who were on line like nursery pupils, is that the policemen shown didn’t trust their superior to collect & distribute the stipend to them, that could have been better. This is where I think the police high command and the police service commission should include TRUST Issue in the curriculum of the police colleges and in their various capacity building seminars on how junior policemen and officers should trust themselves in collecting and sharing gifts, bribes or “roja” in order to avoid national embarrassment like this.
For the Chinese guys, it’s looks like bribing or gifting policemen money openly is a tourist attraction because they can’t do that in their own country. It’s fun to them, that’s why they made it a turn by turn affair, from the chinco man to his lady in gifting out the stipend and recording the event as a memorable skit. Tourist attraction comes in different ways.
