Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has revealed that on the instruction of his client, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, a formal petition has been filed with the Attorney General of the State of Florida concerning properties allegedly acquired unlawfully by Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, CON, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In the petition, dated September 22, 2025, Sowore, through Adeyanju, urged the State of Florida to invoke its anti-corruption and money laundering laws to seize the identified properties, commence prosecution of all parties involved in the transactions, and impose a visa ban on Mr. Wike.
According to the petition, three properties located in Winter Springs, Seminole County, Florida, and allegedly acquired in cash transactions amounting to over $1.4 million, were subsequently transferred to Wike’s children—Jordan, Joaquin, and Jazmyne.
The transactions, executed via quitclaim deeds between 2021 and 2023, were flagged as suspicious due to their cash-only nature and apparent attempt to bypass financial oversight mechanisms in the U.S. banking system.
The petition argues that such transfers are consistent with a pattern of money laundering and concealment of illicit wealth, noting that Wike allegedly failed to declare the assets to Nigeria’s Code of Conduct Bureau, in violation of constitutional provisions requiring public officers to disclose both local and foreign assets.
The document further cites relevant provisions of both U.S. and Nigerian law, including 18 U.S.C. § 1957 in the U.S. and Section 18 of Nigeria’s Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, which criminalize concealing or disguising proceeds of unlawful activity.
“We respectfully pray that the Attorney General of Florida investigates the source of these funds, institutes forfeiture proceedings against the properties, and imposes sanctions on Mr. Wike to prevent further abuse of U.S. territory as a haven for corrupt enrichment,” the petition reads in part.
Adeyanju added that their legal team is prepared to collaborate with U.S. authorities by providing supporting documents, witness testimony, and additional evidence to ensure the case is pursued to a lawful conclusion.
The petition was also copied to the U.S. Attorney General, Pam Bondi and the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills Jr.
On Sunday, Sowore shared the quit claim deeds on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, showing that the ownership transfers were executed on July 22, 2021, July 27, 2021, and August 13, 2023.
One of the quit claim deeds executed on July 22, 2021, shows that Eberechi Nyesom-Wike, married, of 653 Dunblane Drive, Winter Park, Florida, transferred ownership of a property to herself and her son, Joaquin, single, as joint tenants with right of survivorship. The grantees’ address is listed as 113 Spring Creek Lane, Winter Springs, Florida.
