As Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde celebrates his daughter’s graduation from Yale University in the United States, social critic Oluwaseyi Oyetunbi has raised concerns about the governor’s decision to send his daughter abroad instead of choosing the highly esteemed University of Ibadan.
Taking to his Facebook page, Oyetunbi argued that this choice reflects poorly on the confidence in Nigeria’s educational institutions, despite the University of Ibadan’s recognition as one of Africa’s top universities.
He also criticized President Buhari’s decision to send his children to study abroad, pointing to the fact that two of President Buhari’s children graduated from universities in the United Kingdom, highlighting a broader trend among Nigerian elites to seek education overseas.
“University of Ibadan, one of the top universities in Africa situated in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo state is not good enough for the governor’s daughter.
“Oyo state governor isn’t the first, unfortunately. While Buhari was the president of Nigeria, two of his children were openly celebrated for graduating from schools abroad.”, Oyetunbi wrote.
