Residents and business owners in the Oju-Ore–Sango Otta area of Ogun State have continued to lament the worsening condition of the road.
The bad state of the road has made movement difficult for commuters, traders, and motorists who use it daily.
In an interview with a resident and community representative, Mr. Olayinka Fikayomi, he explained that the situation has made his daily trips more stressful and expensive.
“I use the road every day from Onibukun to Oju-Ore, and it has added to my expenses. Going to work has become miserable. You get delayed, and you’re scared of trailers, bikes, and containers using this narrow road,” he said.
“Even those going towards the Ilogbo area are not finding it easy. I’m appealing to the Ogun State government to speed up the bridge construction project,” he added.
Another resident, Mrs. Obasanya Busayo Motuntayo, a Point of Sale (POS) operator, also expressed frustration over how the situation has affected her business.
“As a young lady trying to make ends meet, life has become very difficult because of the bridge construction and the bad road in Oju-Ore,” she said.
“The construction is taking longer than expected, and people are now afraid to come into the community for business. Whether it rains or not, Oju-Ore Road is a mess,” she lamented.
According to her, sales have dropped drastically since the road crisis began.
“Before now, business was fine. But since the road got worse, I hardly make up to a thousand naira a day. Life has become a living hell,” she added.
Many residents also complained about frequent accidents on the road due to its narrowness and the heavy-duty vehicles that use it. They are calling on the Ogun State government to take urgent action to complete the construction and repair the road.
All efforts to reach the Ogun State Commissioner for works, Engr Adebowale Olayinka Akinsanya for comments proved unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls.
