A pregnant woman, Raheemat Lateef, who was initially thought to have been abducted on her way to the hospital to deliver her baby, was discovered to have staged her own kidnapping.
Last week, PurpleWorld reported that the pregnant woman, Raheemat Lateef, was kidnapped on her way to State General Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, Ogun State, where she was scheduled to give birth.
Her husband, Ogunbunmi Lateef, reported the alleged kidnap to the police in Abeokuta.
In a stunning turn of events, on June 24, the police revealed that Raheemat Lateef, who had been widely reported as a victim of abduction, had actually fled to Kwara State to escape her husband’s potential wrath after suffering a miscarriage.
The Kwara State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed on Monday that Raheemat Lateef had been safely recovered and was found in the state in the company of her father. Odutola revealed that the police had been actively tracking her whereabouts and had finally succeeded in locating her.
Odutola said: “Rahemat Lateef who the husband reported abducted, was never abducted, but planned her journey to Kwara State, to escape the wrath of her husband, because she has remained unlucky due to miscarriages.
“She planned the stories; she travelled to Kwara State herself, she was not kidnapped. She had a miscarriage, frustrated due to repeated reoccurrences, feared her husband’s reaction, she orchestrated the script. The anti kidnapping team had started tracking her, till she showed up.
“She is under medical observation, and safe.”
