Three young men who allegedly conspired to kill an UBER driver just for the purpose of dispossessing him of his Toyota Corolla car, have been arrested.
The suspects, all in their 20s, allegedly booked for the service of the late UBER driver, 27-year-old Morenikeji Stephen Oluwaniyi online, lured him to Meiran area in Lagos, where they gruesomely murdered him through strangulation and, thereafter, dumped his remains on the Ebule-Egba Bridge on the Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway.
The late driver’s Toyota Corolla car, marked No. KSF 830 GX, which was why they resorted to perpetrating the heinous criminal act, was taken away.
While basking in the euphoria of an accomplished mission, the law of retribution caught up with the trio, identified in a press release issued by the Lagos State Police Command’s spokesman (PPRO), CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, as “Rilwan Nasiru, aged 27; Sodiq Taiwo, aged 23 and Oladimeji, aged 20”.
Their arrests, according to the release, was sequel to a complaint lodged by the victim’s fiancée at the Meiran Police Division on September 6, 2021, following which, “detectives immediately put in motion investigation mechanisms that led to the arrest of the suspects in their criminal hideouts, and recovery of the stolen car”.
Crime Puzzle gathered that the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, while expressing his delight in the breakthrough was, however, saddened by the dastardly act of snuffing out life from the young driver and, has directed that the case should be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
“The Commissioner of Police, while commiserating with the victim’s family, has assured that no stone would be left unturned to diligently prosecute the case”, the statement revealed, even as he went further to admonish UBER drivers and others, operating a similar business, to always be security conscious and wary of their passengers.
