The Plateau Youth Council (PYC) of Chakfem Chiefdom has condemned in strong terms the latest attack on its community, describing the incident as part of an ongoing genocidal pattern targeted at exterminating its people.
In a statement signed by Deputy Chairman, Joshua Gabriel Goholput, on behalf of Chairman Ephraim Prep, the Council expressed deep sorrow over the renewed killings that left several lives lost and properties destroyed.
According to the PYC, the repeated attacks are not isolated crimes but systematic assaults that bear “the mark of genocide” against defenseless communities in Plateau State. The group maintained that no grievance can justify the deliberate shedding of innocent blood.
“Each life lost represents a shattered dream, a broken family, and a scar on the conscience of our nation. Beyond the physical destruction, such coordinated and repeated attacks sow seeds of fear and division, threatening the peace and unity we have worked so hard to preserve,” the statement read.
The Council mourned with bereaved families, stressing that every destroyed home is “an assault on the collective future” of the Chakfem people. It called on the victims’ families to remain steadfast in faith, assuring them that justice would one day prevail.
On the way forward, the Plateau Youth Council urged security agencies to act swiftly and decisively to bring the perpetrators to justice, warning that failure to do so would embolden further bloodshed.
“The perpetrators of this heinous crime, which constitutes nothing short of genocide, must not go unpunished. Justice is not optional; it is a necessity for peace to reign,” the statement emphasized.
The Council also called on government at all levels to rise to its constitutional responsibility of safeguarding lives and property, while also providing immediate relief to survivors who have been displaced and traumatized by the attacks.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace, justice, and the protection of its people, the Plateau Youth Council declared that it would not remain silent in the face of what it described as genocide.
“As a people, we must strengthen our unity, uphold peace, and continue to demand justice through every peaceful means. We will not rest until lasting peace is restored,” the statement concluded.
